A native of Gimhae, South Korea, Narae Choi grew up surrounded by verdant coastal hills which served as an early inspiration for her artistic pursuits. Upon moving to Colorado, Narae was enamored with that state’s stunning vistas, but she initially found the muted colors of Colorado’s prairies unremarkable. However, after a career in academia, Narae rekindled her passion for painting, and through her exploration of watercolor and acrylics, discovered a profound appreciation for the unique beauty of the Eastern Plains.
With a keen eye for detail and a talent for capturing the essence of her subjects, Narae's artwork celebrates the Mountain West; from its expansive skies and rugged terrain to its captivating simplicity. Her paintings often feature the region's iconic Rabbit Brush, a plant that has become a symbol of her love for the American West, along with bison and Blucifer (AKA Blue Mustang).
Through her art, Narae invites viewers to see the world through her eyes, to find beauty in the unexpected, and to appreciate the diverse landscapes that have shaped her artistic journey. Her portfolio often showcases portraits, particularly those of her beloved children and dogs.
